SPRING TRAINING IS FINALLY UPON US

Tampa, FL.~ With the thought of repeating as World Champions in their heads the New York Yankees open up camp in Tampa, Florida to start preparations for the 2010 season. Yankee fans are still excited about the happenings of last season and want it to happen again in year 2 of the new Yankee Stadium. The number one concern on Manager Joe Girardi’s mind is the lineup. He also wants to lighten the workload of the starting pitcher’s as Spring Training begins this week. I apologize for the lack of posts lately but now that spring training is beginning the frequency of posts will be a lot more frequent.

A GLOBAL WORLD SERIES? IF COMMISIONER SELIG HAS HIS WAY IT COULD BE A REALITY
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig will be leaving office in 2012 and before that day comes he wants to leave his mark on Major League Baseball. He wants to leave his mark by teaming up with Nippon Professional Baseball and Japan and creating a Global World Series which would pit the MLB World Champions against the Champions from the Nippon Professional Baseball league. As you would expect extra baseball at the end of the season is opposed by the players’ union due to reasons such as the risk of injury. As of now the only global baseball competition we have is the World Baseball classic which is held every 3 years but this Global World Series would be every year and could to the surprise of Nippon Professional Baseball Commisoner Ryozo Koto this competition could be created before Selig leaves office in 2012.
What is your thought on a Global World Series? Do you like it or is the Tri-Yearly World Baseball Classic enough for a Global Baseball competition?
AS WE SAY GOODBYE TO 2009 WE REFLECT ON THE PAST YEAR’S EVENTS
Saying goodbye to 2009 means saying goodbye to a decade. A decade in which the New York Yankees won 5 World Series Championships with the latest being in 2009 to end the decade. A lot has happened in the year 2009 including the biggest moment being World Championship number 27, let’s take a look at the 10 biggest moments of the 2009 season as we get ready to ring in the new year 2010.

1) Opening Day at the New Yankee Stadium
2) Luis Castillo dropped the ball during the first Subway Series at the New Yankee Stadium to give the Yankees the win.
3) The “Pie Man” A.J. Burnett debuts as he delivers his first Walk Off pie to Johnny Damon on May 17, 2009 after Damon hit a 10th inning HR to beat the Minnesota Twins.
4) Alex Rodriguez homers in the bottom of the 15th inning to beat the Boston Red Sox to complete a 4 game sweep after the Red Sox had gone 8-0 against the Yankees.
5) On 9/11 Derek Jeter passed the Iron Horse Lou Gehrig as the All Time Yankees hits leader
6) On Alex Rodriguez’s first swing of the 2009 season in Baltimore he connects and hits a HR after returning from hip surgery that caused him to miss the first month of the season.
7) 2008 ended a streak of consecutive years of the Yankees making the playoffs but 2009 started that streak fresh as they won the AL East for the first time since 2006.
8) A wall scraper HR by Mark Teixeira in the bottom of the 11th in Game 2 of the ALDS off Twins’ closer Joe Nathan gives the Yankees a 2-0 lead in the series which ended up in a 3-0 sweep that took place in the Metrodome. The Yankee win ended the Twins’ season and made it the final baseball game to ever be played in the dome.
9) At 1:07 am in Game 2 of the ALCS Maicer Izturis misplayed a ball that plated Jerry Hairston Jr. in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Yankees yet another walk off victory and a 2-0 ALCS lead heading west to California.

HOT STOVE NEWS FOR WEEK OF 12/14/09
Roy Halladay has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies along with some prospects from Seattle in a blockbuster three team trade involving the Phillies, Mariners, and Blue Jays. The Phillies and Halladay have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $60 million or more, which would keep him in red pinstripes through the 2013. In return for Halladay the Blue Jays receive:
The Mariners have also acquired Chone Figgins this week.
The Boston Red Sox acquired John Lackey and Mike Cameron
The Chicago White Sox have acquired Juan Pierre
Last but not least we get to news concerning the World Series Champion New York Yankees. Their World Series MVP Hideki Matsui will be signing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim leaving me to believe the Yankees will either try to sign Bay or resign old reliable Johnny Damon to hit in the two hole behind “El Capitan” Derek Jeter.
That is what has happened this week and it’s only Tuesday! If this is what is going on in December I can’t wait to see what goes on during the rest of the off season.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The New York Yankees and their fans have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving as they use this off season to take in the reality that they are the 27 Time World Series Champions. The Yankees were like family this past season and they were thankful for each other as they all played a role in winning number 27. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving 2009? Leave a comment below. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
YANKEES CRUISE DOWN CANYON OF HEROES
It’s been nine long years but the New York Yankees paraded down the Canyon of Heroes once again as they and over a million Yankee fans celebrated their 27th World Series victory. The Yankees were presented keys to the city by Mayor Michael Bloomberg at City Hall after making their way down the Canyon. This is a sight that Yankee fans will be seeing a lot more of because it won’t be nine years before we win our next one.
WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!
Yankee fans are in 27th heaven! The New York Yankees have won the World Series for the 27th time last night and they won in the inaugural season of the New Yankee Stadium. Ask anybody and they would tell you this championship was for the boss, George Steinbrenner. All I can say is WOW! I am in shock right now because it has been nine long years since this has happened but Yankee fans including myself kinda expected this after the aggressiveness of the Yankees’ front office in the free agency market during the off season. CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira = Money Well Spent! Congratulations Yankees!

CLUTCH 9TH INNING HITTING PUTS YANKEES ONE WIN AWAY FROM CHAMPIONSHIP
Going into the top of the ninth inning it was tied at 4 a piece and Brad Lidge was on the mound for the Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies fans figured that Lidge would have a scoreless inning and make something happen in the bottom of the ninth to even up the series once again. It was close to a scoreless inning for Lidge who had recorded two outs in the inning but then his worst nightmare came up to the plate. Johnny Damon worked the count full and made Lidge throw a lot of pitches and Damon eventually won the battle by hitting a single to left that bounced in front of Raul Ibanez. With Mark Teixeira now at the plate the Phillies put the shift on but this left them vulnerable to the running threat that the Yankees posed. Johnny Damon stole second base on the first pitch but with nobody covering third base Damon scooted around 3B Pedro Feliz and proceeded to third base uncontested. Teixeira was eventually walked putting runners on the corner for Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod hit a screaming line drive double over the head of Raul Ibanez to plate two runs and put the Yankees up 7 – 4. Going into the bottom of the ninth the Phillies were now down by 3 instead of being tied and coming out of the visitor’s bullpen was Mariano Rivera and as we all know he has been lights out this postseason and he was so once again as he shut the Phillies down 1,2,3 to put the Yankees up 3 games to 1 and one win away from World Series Championship number 27.

YANKEES GET TO HAMELS TO TAKE 2 – 1 LEAD IN SERIES
“Let’s give them something to talk about,How about love?” The Yankees gave Phillies fans something to talk about in the city of Brotherly Love last night as the long ball and two hitters breaking out of their slumps propelled them to a 8-5 victory over the Phillies giving them a 2 games to 1 lead in the best of 7 World Series. As John Sterling put it, “The Yankees are half way to winning the World Series.” Half way is exactly right because the Yankees only need 2 more wins to wrap up number 27. Both Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher broke out of their slumps last night and they both hit home runs! Now that these two sluggers have finally woken up the Yankees chances of winning just took a great leap in their favor. Joe Girardi gave Phil Hughes the ball in the ninth inning last night to close it out but after getting the first out in the inning he gave up a home run which made it a 3 run game and a save situation so Girardi went to as much of a sure thing you can get when it comes to relief pitching in post season baseball and that is # 42 Mariano Rivera. “Enter Sandman” wan’t playing on the PA system but none the less Mo got the job done.
TAKING ONE TO THE BANK!
The Yankees are taking one win with them to the bank, Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia that is or should I say “Silly”delphia. Clutch hitting from Mark Teixeira tied the game up at 1 and the Yankees had no mercy for public enemy number 1, Pedro Martinez after that because Matsui took him deep again to put New York on top for good in last night’s game. Pedro was not the same Pedro that pitched for the Red Sox but the Yankees’ are still his daddy!
