OFF DAY NOTES 3rd EDITION

The Yankees swept the Mets, Mariano Rivera picked up his 500th save. Who could ask for a better weekend. The struggling Mets woes continue as just about all of their big names are on the DL for one reason or another. The Yankees exploited the Mets’ weaknesses and continued the beating from 16 days ago at Yankee Stadium. The Bronx Bombers have officially christened the new home of the Mets with the first Subway Series sweep there. This is a sign of good things to come for the bombers and a grim sign for the New York Mets who desperately need to make a deal for another bat in that sorry excuse for a lineup. The Mets have few options but here is one that would be very beneficial to the Amazin’s : Washington Nationals OF/1B Adam Dunn. Dunn can play two positions that the Mets need help with right now. Daniel Murphy has played first base and the out field for the Mets this season and he hasn’t been doing to hot at either position and on top of that Murphy is in a slump at the plate right now. If the Mets want to show the baseball community that they are serious about winning and if they don’t want to disappoint their fans by choking three years in a row and miss the playoffs for the third straight time. My next order of business is Francisco Rodriguez better known as K-Rod. K-Rod came into last night’s game with a one run deficit and pitched very poorly. Luis Castillo and Alex Cora converged in short right field and dropped yet another pop-up behind Francisco Rodriguez in a Subway Series game. Normally that would’ve been a spot for eighth inning man or closer number 2 J.J. Putz. But Putz is on the DL with just about every other player on the New York Mets roster. K-Rod also added insult to injury by walking the opposing closer! Not only did he allow Mo to pick up an RBI but he got to see the master at work as Mariano picked up save number 500. A feat K-Rod can only dream of at the moment. I’m going to end my off day notes post there because I could ramble all day about issues in Major League Baseball but those stories will be for Off Dat Notes 4th Edition. So until my next post See Ya!

CONGRATULATIONS MARIANO!

A day after the Yankees lost a close one to their crosstown rivals they had to face the Mets Ace. They knocked Santana around for seven runs before he was yanked but the Yankees didn’t want to stop at seven runs. They destroyed the Mets by not only scoring 15 of their own runs but not letting the Mets score any. The Yankees needed depth from their starters and that is just what A.J. Burnett gave them. He pitched 7 strong innings and allowed no runs on only 3 hits. The Yankees committed an error in today’s ball game but nothing nearly as bad as what Luis Castillo did to end Friday night’s game. After the Yankees play some more inter-league games they will travel to Citi Field to continue the beating they laid on the Mets this weekend.

A-Rod slammed his bat in frustration and slowly trotted towards first base because he thought he had just hit the final out of the first subway series at the new Yankee Stadium but boy was he wrong. Mets 2B Luis Castillo dropped a routine fly ball and the tying and go ahead run scored. Derek Jeter scored from second base and Mark Teixeira scored all the way from first to beat the Mets by a score of 9 – 8. Francisco Rodriguez let Castillo know of his frustration as he grimaced and put his hands over his heads not in his usual pointing to the sky after a save but in pure disgust over what had just occurred. It was K-Rod vs. A-Rod and Alex won the battle by hitting an “A-Bomb” to Castillo. No it wasn’t a traditional “A-Bomb” that went over the fence but it had the same effect in electrifying the stadium as Yankee fans everywhere were jumping for joy. Luis Castillo may have become New York’s Bucky Dent.
