MAGIC NUMBER DOWN TO 3
After beating the Boston Red Sox last night the Yankees magic number is now 3. 3 is the number of Yankee Legend Babe Ruth and oh yeah he used to play for the Red Sox. Who said the curse of the Bambino was over? The Yankees have 2 more games against the Red Sox with a chance to sweep them and Clinch the AL East title.

“It’s mind-boggling,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “You think about what Derek has done his whole career, how great he has been for such a long time and what he has meant to the organization, and you put his name next to Lou Gehrig. It’s amazing.” Jeter plans on storing the ball at the home of his parents, who were in attendance Wednesday and plan on remaining in New York until Jeter breaks Gehrig’s record. He nearly did so in the eighth inning, running up a full count before reliever Grant Balfour walked him with two outs.
MAGIC NUMBER IS DOWN TO 14
With the Yankees defeating the Tampa Bay Rays again the magic number lowers again. 14 is the number of new Yankee Eric Hinske. It was also the number of former Yankee Angel Berroa.
MAGIC NUMBER IS 16
When the Yankees took the night cap of the double header it lowered their magic number yet again to 16. 16 belonged to Yankee great Whitey Ford also known as the Chairman of the Board. The Yankees will send Chad Gaudin (5-10) out to face David Price (7-7) tonight as they once again play the Tampa Bay Rays.
DEREK JETER HIT COUNT: 2718
Derek Jeter was the only Yankee starter who was hitless yesterday and he stayed 3 hits behind the Iron Horse. Jeter will face off against David Price in a bid to pass Lou Gehrig and break the New York Yankees All Time Hits Record.
