Photobucket
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols has won the 2009 National League Most Valuable Player Award. It is Albert’s third NL MVP award of his career. Pujols received 32 first place votes, good for 448 ballot points. Florida Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez garnered 15 second place votes and 233 points. Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard was a close third with 217 points. They were followed by Milwaukee Brewers 1B Prince Fielder and Colorado Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki. Pujols has won the award two seasons in a row and he is only the tenth player all time to win the award three times. Every player that has won three MVP’s and been elected to the HOF have made it in. New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez and former San Francsico Giants OF Barry Bonds have not yet been elected. That wraps up the Yakkin’ About The Yankees coverage of the 2009 season, now I turn my focus to the off season including all trades, rumors and free agent signings.

YANKEES GET HIRSH FROM COLORADO

Photobucket

NEW YORK — The Rockies traded right-handed pitcher Jason Hirsh to the Yankees on Wednesday for a player to be named later.

Hirsh has spent the entire season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, compiling a 6-7 record and a 6.66 ERA in 20 games — 16 starts.

Hirsh had been a member of the Rockies’ rotation for much of the 2007 season, going 5-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 19 starts. Hirsh, however, suffered an ankle injury in July and made just two starts the rest of the season as the Rockies advanced to the World Series.

The right-hander made one start in four appearances last season for Colorado, allowing three runs in 4 1/3 innings on Sept. 26 at Arizona.

Hirsh initially came over to Colorado from Houston as part of the Jason Jennings trade in December 2006.

Hirsh finished his Rockies career with a 5-7 record and a 5.06 ERA.
